I wholeheartedly suggest looking at strobist.com. Start with the welcome and lighting 101. There is a wealth of information on there. Even though David Hobby(the strobist himself) talks about off camera flash, it's really good info for lighting in general.

The lighting is unbelievable with all the sculpted curves.

After seeing all your new photos, it made me realize I need to learn more about lighting!

WAD! You found me! I mostly got it to help steady my hands a bit, especially for closer shots and when traveling. I have a friend who has one and loves it.

As far as being careful, I will, I don't expect miracles out of it, but it might allow for a little more creativity while traveling.

Personally, I'd be careful with that thing.

I own the smaller version for my point and shoot and I've found a few caveats for using it.

One, it's maddening to get the dammed thing level.

B, The "grippies" sometimes don't grip so well. Thanks Jebus for the soft, soft grass in Cancun. My camera took a 12 foot drop like a champ, but I didn't unpack the g-pod for the rest of the trip.

Finally, probably related to 'One', after some time (random and variable to be sure), the "legs" don't straighten out so well.

But all the same it's a really cool little thing for quick shots.

I've been thinking about getting the larger model, but I've got a K10D and it's pretty heavy (noticeably heavier than the wife's D40x), so I wonder about how well it would hold "The Beast".
